Position Title: Communicable Disease Specialist

Paygrade: H- Dependent Upon Qualifications/Unclassified

Location: Office of Infectious Disease, Negotiable within the Southeast Health District

Description of Duties:

Under limited supervision, recruit high-risk individuals to participate in HIV prevention programs and HIV testing. Participate in community and cultural events targeting high-risk individuals, distributing condoms, brochures, awareness messages, and encouraging HIV testing. Developing and maintaining relationships with community organizations, agencies, venues, business establishments and other stake holders that focus on or have access to this high-risk population. Conduct community HIV testing and HIV prevention counseling at various outreach events and venues. Ensure the timely submission of test data as well as the accuracy of test forms. Help facilitate linkage to community resources, medical care and other HIV/AIDS related prevention and care/treatment services. Attend all required trainings and meetings, other responsibilities as assigned. Prepares monthly progress reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR Four years of outreach experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience conducting HIV Counseling and Testing.  Established presence within the targeted community. Basic knowledge of HIV infection and prevention; Knowledge of MSM/Gay/Bisexual communities and sensitivity to the norms, values, and cultural beliefs of the population; Strong interpersonal skills; Strong organizational skills; Excellent presentation/group facilitation skills; Awareness of resources available to the target population; Effective oral and written communication skills; Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
